Is that an Accent I Detect?

One of the first things I asked Aaron when we spoke on the phone 6 and a half years ago was "Is that an Accent I detect?  Yes he's a Kiwi!  His accent isn't all that strong anymore but you can still hear a hint of it.  His parents have a stronger one, particularly his mum, but Aaron still has a slight one after all these years.

I'll have to copy these cos they're hard to see....

This is sooooo true...and even funnier when it's written down like that.  A few of them have caught me up.  Like "pits"....at the beginning of our relationship while he was living in Brisbane and I in Toowoomba we'd be speaking on the phone a lot and I remember once we were talking while he was in the car on his way to the 'Pit shop'...I said "What?"
"Pit shop"
"Pit shop?  What do they sell?"
"Pits!"
"They sell pits?  Like you get in stone fruit....?" I was having a go...I knew exactly what he was saying LOL
"No pits! Like dogs, cats....."
"Ooooooh pets! Got it!"

Then there's bear and beer...or a bear with a beer?  A bear drinking a beer?  Does it really matter?  Cos it sounds exactly the same! Bear and beer, here and hair.

And lets not underestimate one's ability to pick up accents.  Obviously over the years Aaron's is slowly disappearing the longer he lives in this country but I've caught myself say "Darnce" instead of "Dance" and "Charnce" instead of "Chance" and Cassidy uses them interchangably.  Oh and on occasion you can here "Chups" slip out instead of "Chips"....*hangs head*.

Aaron's accent has always been a butt of my amusement ...probably will for a long time.  One day when we have enough money we're going to visit NZ to see his rels and so he can show me where he grew up then I'll be the one with the accent that everyone can laugh at LOL  But until then...Aaron will just have to suck it up!

Sweet es bru!
